I want to tell you about Diane Clements who is a bookseller at Lemuria Bookstore in Jackson, Mississippi; and I want to tell you about hand-selling which is when a bookseller takes a book off the shelf and puts that book in a customer’s hands and says, “Please, please read this book.”
This simple, profound gesture connects people. It makes a book come alive.
So: Diane Clements. Lemuria Bookstore. Jackson, Mississippi.
Some time ago, Diane gave herself a goal of hand-selling 1,000 copies of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
She is now at 1,086 copies and counting.
One thousand and eighty-six times, Diane has taken Edward off the shelf and put his story in the hands of a person who she thought might like it, need it.
This is a thank-you to Diane and to everyone who says, “Please, please read this book.”
It has been, it continues to be, a miraculous journey.
