When I was a kid, I loved the Baba Yaga stories that appeared in Jack and Jill magazine. I was especially taken with Baba Yaga’s dwelling which was a hut balanced on top of chicken legs. The hut could run and walk.
Henry (during his recent traumas) got a good deal of fur shaved from his front legs and to my mind he now resembles Baby Yaga’s chicken-legged hut.
The fur is starting to grow back and Henry is going on short walks and he is at my feet as I type these words. He is snoring.
Yesterday, he came running toward me and I burst into tears.
He looked ridiculous and wonderful and impossible.
Like Baba Yaga’s hut.
I am so glad that he is still here.
