I was at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. over the weekend.
I had finished my book signing session, and I was just getting up to leave the table when a boy came running over with his copy of Flora and Ulysses.
“I need you to sign this because I loved Incandesto and the plot of the book and all of it.” He took a deep breath. “How do I explain this? I need you to sign this book because it matters to me.”
I sat down. I took the book from him and looked him in the eye and said, “You are making me very, very happy. You know that, right?”
He said, “Yes, well, okay.”
I signed his book.
And three days later, here I am: still very, very happy.
