I just read Sherman Alexie’s Thunder Boy Jr. illustrated by Yuyi Morales.
I loved it.
I laughed.
I was moved.
When I was done with the book, I went back to the beginning and read the dedications.
I cried when I read Yuyi’s words:

“To the Western Addition Library in SF where, as a new mother and immigrant, I found my first home in the USA. Nancy, I hope you remember me. You changed my life forever when you put books in my hands.”

I’ve been in Arizona for the last few days and I have met so many librarians, teachers, and booksellers who are working to put books in readers’ hands.
I want to thank you.
It is just like Yuyi says: you are changing lives forever.
