So . . . this is something that has never happened to me before.
I almost walked right, directly into a hummingbird.
I saw the glint of wings and I thought: oh, there is a dragonfly.
My next thought was: that is a very big dragonfly.
And then this hummingbird flew right past my face.
I actually heard the whir of wings.
Even though it has never happened to me before, the whole experience felt familiar.
Why?
I guess because that is how a story arrives.
I see the glint of something—the glimmer; and then there is some small displacement of air, a feeling that something magical has passed by, and that I should turn and follow it.
