Every night before I go to sleep, I try to think of three small things I am grateful for.
Not big things.
Small things.
Last night, the list of three went like this:
1. A super ball (with a smiling monster inside of it) that I found in an alley. Someone had taken a big bite out of it, but it still bounced (albeit in a slightly wonky way).
2. A tree a few blocks over that has two of its upper limbs pressed together in a very elegant way, so that the tree looks as if it were praying. (A side note: I must have walked past this tree a thousand times, and yesterday was the first day I noticed this).
3. The wren who balanced on a branch of the burning bush in my front yard. This wren was very small, but she had puffed her feathers out to such a degree that she looked large, mighty.
I am grateful for the super ball, the tree branches, the wren.
I am grateful to you for reading these words.
Happy Thanksgiving.
