I recently did several book signings in New York. On at least four different occasions, someone uttered a variation on these astonishing words to me:
We read these stories together; you are a part of our family.
Each time, I was so taken aback that I didn’t manage to respond in a meaningful way.
Here is what I should I have said:
I feel it.
You are part of my family, too.
Isn’t it miraculous what story can do?
