A rainy day last week and I’m walking into the grocery store when a woman reaches out and takes hold of my hand and says, “I’m so glad that child is okay.”
“What?” I said.
“Louisiana,” said the woman. She squeezed my hand. “I’m so glad she is okay.”
“Oh,” I said. “Thank you. Thank you for believing in stories. Thank you for believing in Louisiana.”
And we just stood there in the grocery store holding hands, smiling at each other.
