At the grocery store: “I’ve been reading Roald Dahl’s BFG aloud to my grandkids every day on Zoom. We’re having the best time.”
On a walk: “Are you Kate? I thought so. I’m reading Edward’s story over the phone to my grandkids in Seattle. It has been so moving, reading together like this.”
On the phone with a friend: “Every day, the grandkids call at the same time and do you know what they do? They read to me. It’s so wonderful to be read to. We’re just finishing up Anne of Green Gables. I can’t wait to see what’s next.”
Grandparents and grandkids: these words are a big thank-you to you.
Thank you for reading to each other.
Thank you for connecting through story.
These are hard times.
Stories are light; stories read together make the world brighter.
