I’ve been walking around lately with the words of Billy Collin’s “Aimless Love” in my head. The poem begins, “This morning as I walked along the lakeshore,/I fell in love with a wren/and later in the day with a mouse . . .”
And that is what I’ve been doing these autumn days, walking along and falling in love with trees and leaves, the faces of strangers, the shine of crow feathers, the miracle of asters, the arch of the blue sky–falling in love with this beautiful, impossible world.
