On a recent trip to New York City, I was running through the airport to meet a friend, and in my haste, I almost went down the up-escalator.
I caught myself in the nick of time.
When I was on the down-escalator, I heard a voice say, “That was close. I could see it all unfolding and I didn’t want it to end in disaster.”
I turned and looked at the man standing behind me. He smiled.
“I was getting ready to grab hold of you,” he said.
“Thank you,” I said. “Thank you for watching out for me.”
Later, when I got back home, I was making my way through the mail, and came to a letter from a teacher who asked if I could write a note to one of her students who was struggling.
“Stories are helping him,” the teacher wrote. “But I am keeping an eye on him.”
We watch out for each other in all kinds of ways.
It doesn’t always get acknowledged. I wanted to acknowledge it here.
