“And so when Peter had his first bite of stew, it overwhelmed him. The warmth of it, the richness of it, knocked him backward; it was as if a gentle hand had pushed him when he was not expecting it.”

This is my favorite moment in The Magician’s Elephant, and it turns out that it is my favorite moment in the movie version, too.
Peter asks Gloria what he is eating, and she answers him, “It is stew . . .”
An answer that she imbues with warmth and kindness.
Peter feels the wonder of finding himself suddenly safe and warm and loved.
The Magician’s Elephant premiers on Netflix on Friday.
I hope that watching it, you, too, feel the warmth and kindness and wonder of home.
