When I was eight years old, I fell in love with Abraham Lincoln, and my mother bought me a book—a biography written by Barbara Cary, entitled Meet Abraham Lincoln.
I read the book again and again.
It was just what I needed, and I felt as if it had been written for me.
I’m thinking of my mother this morning.
I’m thinking of all the books she bought for me and read to me.
What a gift!
To every person who sees a smaller person and thinks: “This book is what this child needs. I will give it to them,” I say “Thank you. You are giving them the world.”
Thank you, Betty DiCamillo.
You gave me the world.
