“All art stands on the shoulders of craft, which means to get to the art, you must master the craft. If you want to write, practice writing.”
–Ann Patchett

I’ve been down in the basement, sorting through decades of files and boxes.
I seem to have saved every attempt at writing I’ve made–every draft, every story.
The great bulk of what is in these boxes is not much good.
But I’m proud of it anyway.
Why?
Because I did it.
The physical evidence of all that work, all that hope, moves me.
It motivates me to keep practicing.
