When I was eight years old, the librarian at Cooper Memorial Public Library waived the four-book-maximum-check-out rule for me.
She said that I could check out as many books as I wanted at one time because I was a “True Reader.”
What a gift she gave me!
She saw me for who I was.
And that, in turn, allowed me to see myself.
Thank you, Miss Alice.
Thank you, librarians everywhere.
