I can’t cook. Really, I can’t.
But tomorrow, I will make the stuffing for the turkey.
It’s simple enough–bread, white onion, butter (lots of it), salt, pepper and turkey drippings cooked together in a cast iron skillet.
This is how my mother made stuffing, and making it conjures her into the kitchen, puts her at the table—laughing, vibrant.
She was an impossible, beautiful, amazing woman.
I am grateful for bread, onions, butter, salt, pepper, turkey drippings, a table full of people I love.
I am grateful for my mother.
I miss her.
Tomorrow I will make the stuffing.
