I am back from Colorado, Utah and Idaho.
I am exhausted and grateful.
At night, when I close my eyes I see people.
The people are smiling. They are holding books.
They are kids and teachers and parents and librarians and booksellers.
They are teenagers who remember the first novel that they read on their own and they have come to say thank you.
Don’t let anybody tell you that kids aren’t reading.
Don’t let them tell you that teachers aren’t reading to their students, or that parents aren’t reading to their kids.
Don’t let them tell you that librarians and booksellers aren’t putting books into the hands of kids.
It’s happening.
I see it.
And it’s wonderful.
Tomorrow, I leave for California.
I will look for you there.
