“Mrs. Coolidge in Tom Thumb Wedding”
Those are the words written underneath the photo of my mother (on the left) and (the unidentified) Tom Thumb bride and groom.
But who in the world is Mrs. Coolidge?
And what was her role in a Tom Thumb wedding?
My mother is gone. I can’t ask her.
I can make up a story, of course. I can imagine an answer.
And I might.
But in the meantime, I hold this photo in my hand and look at my mother’s young self; and I’m tipped sideways by love and all its unasked, unanswered questions.
